Capito Votes To Ensure West Virginians Have Access To Life-Saving Medication5/31/12
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., today voted in favor of H.R. 5651 “The Food and Drug Administration Reform Act” which passed the House today 387 to 5.
The legislation would facilitate better communication between the FDA and prescription drug companies to ensure life-saving medications—especially those used to treat rare diseases—are safely approved faster. The bill would also facilitate an expeditious review process for generic drug applications in an effort to get more affordable drugs to market. The medical device and biopharmaceutical industries provide millions of good-paying jobs in America, and this legislation would ensure those jobs stay in America instead of being shipped overseas.
“Almost every American has taken some sort of medication in his or her lifetime. It could be as simple as a pain reliever for a back ache or as life saving as cutting edge cancer treatments. This legislation would ensure that patients have timely access to innovative treatments,” stated Capito. “I support this bill because it would keep jobs, innovation and important patents in America. With unemployment stagnant above 8%, we need to do everything we can to keep these jobs back home.”
